About 400 km north of Bangkok, there is the town of Sukhothai, which was the capital of the first Thai kingdom. Since 1991 it is declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
It consists of a large area of temples, that despite many years in disuse, are fairly well preserved. Basically, there is only missing the wooden roofs structures, that where covering the temples, which rested on stone columns. Now, this stone columns remain standing as imposing and solitary structures, released of its load.
