CHIANG MAI - 11th Dec. 2014 to 20th Dec. 2014

Surrounded by mountains, this is the largest city in northern Thailand. It was the capital of the Lanna Kingdom between 1296 and 1768. Nowadays, it could be, probably, the Thai backpackers capital .

For us, this city is a meeting point, with Xabi, who we met in Bangkok, and with Ricard and Veronica, we met them in Sukhothai.

Chiang Mai is much smaller than Bangkok and calm, but very focused on tourism. However, it's well suported. Has considerable markets and fairs, such as the night market, which is a daily market, the Saturday or the Sunday market, all of them full of stalls and places to eat.

In these markets there is a wide range of meals, where each stall is specialized in a particular type of product. Often it's difficult to choose what would you like to eat, but the idea is to go for a walk and find the stall with this product you would like to try.

We were also interested in this one, with worms, crickets and other bugs (some of us more than others).

Although Gemma, where she most enjoyed was  in the little restaurant next to our hotel.
Chiang Mai is the city of temples and stupas. The most significant is the stupa in temple Wat Chediluang Varaviharn, which was built between s. XIV and XV, with a height of 82m. In 1545, due to an earthquake, the height were reduced to 50m. This is how it is today.
As we said, this is a city of temples, for this, we let you there a little collection of some of them below:

Wat Rajamontean
Wat Saen Muang Ma Luang
Wat Lokmolee and their desires trees

Wat Chiang Man

Wat Saenfang Stupa
The white stupa of Wat Mahawan
Wat Phantao and its stupas made of bamboo and sand. Located next to the monastery and the monks clothes drying in the sun.

The gold stupa of Wat Phan On
